How to read the distribution tracker
This tracks payments, not announcements. Every figure here is one distribution measured against the one before it, both restated onto the current share count. We never observe an issuer’s declaration, so “lower latest payout” means exactly that — the money paid went down — and it does not mean the fund announced a cut. “Higher latest payout” does not mean it announced a raise. We reserve cut and raise for a change that is cadence-adjusted and confirmed by the issuer, which is a different measurement than the one on this page: a fund that moves from weekly to monthly payments shows a large lower latest payout here while paying the same annual total.
Variable payers are a different animal. Option-income, target-distribution and single-stock premium funds set each payment from whatever their strategy collected, so their distributions move every period by design. Those rows carry a Variable tag and have their own filter — read a move there as the strategy working, not as a payout decision. A lower latest payout at a fund with a steady schedule is the one worth a second look, and even then a special distribution in the prior period can make an ordinary payment look weak.
